Product Description
CoreFiling are the founders of iXBRL, so it’s no surprise that they offer a feature-rich iXBRL tagger. This product also named “Seahorse” shouldn’t be confused with the XBRL validation and mapping tool by the same name, presented in our Solvency II category.
CoreFiling’s Seahorse iXBRL tagger can accommodate any taxonomy and is already being widely adopted for ESMA’s ESEF and UK-SEF.
As a browser-based SaaS solution, Seahorse leverages Machine Learning to streamline the tagging process.

The application can consume reports in a range of formats, including Word, PDF and InDesign. It offers a fully visual, modern interface. Most of the processing is performed on the face of the document.
There are two ways to tag a document. The first way is to simply select a range of text and apply a tag. When text is selected, Seahorse conveniently produces a set of suggested tags, along with a confidence score for each suggestion.
Applying a tag is rarely more than 2 or 3 clicks away, and once tagged Seahorse will highlight the text in a different colour, so that it is easy to see, at a glance, content that has or has not been tagged.
The second way to tag facts is to use Seahorse’s table tagger tool. Users simply draw a border around financial statements and the Auto Tag feature, making use of Machine Learning, returns suggestions, again with confidence factors to help you along.
Seahorse will identify current and prior year dimensions in a report, as well as the number formats, number scaling, and currencies, ensuring appropriate tags are applied to each item in the statement.
“Bulk review” is another fantastic feature. Selecting this will instruct Seahorse to loop through all of the lines in a selected table and prepare suggestions for each. Users are presented with a dialog screen that offers a complete overview of the financial statement and suggests which tags and sign rules to apply.
The software also provides a detailed Concept Browser. This offers a structured and searchable list per the chosen taxonomy and allows the user to view the documentation for any particular concept.
Seahorse even offers a range of extended capabilities to modify and customise the concepts and their relationships, and the interface for doing so is as intuitive as the rest of the software.
Ensuring data accuracy is obviously integral to the process. Seahorse also provides full transparency of the underlying calculation relations and drilling into these is also possible.
When it comes to generating the output file, Seahorse will automatically parse and evaluate the taxonomy rules. This includes the taxonomy rules as well as conformance rules, such as those defined within the ESEF reporting manual.
Once all validation errors have been cleared, the final output can be created and placed into a zip folder, which includes the fully tagged and visual XHTML document, as well as the individual iXBRL files.
CoreFilling’s Seahorse is a highly capable and easy-to-use browser-based tool loaded with rich features. The Machine Learning-powered auto-tagging and the highly accurate bulk review features are real time savers and offers their customers so much confidence in the accuracy of their reports.
